ECHS Policies

Good News:

Parents can now see their student’s attendance in real time any time by using the Infinite Campus Parent portal!

Absences:

1. Only the parent may excuse the student from school.
2. Emergency contacts are for school use only in the case of an emergency here on campus and the parent can not be reached.
3. Students need to bring a note signed by the parent upon return from their absence.
4. You will receive a courtesy call the day of your student’s absence.
5. If a student will be out for 5 consecutive days, please notify the school prior to the student’s absence.

Early Release:

1. Students need to bring in a signed note by the parent with the time of dismissal.
2. If the student does not have a note, the parent needs to come into the Attendance Office with photo ID.
3. Students are never released with phone call or by any other person.
4. If the student leaves campus without permission, the student will be subject to disciplinary action.

Health Services:

• Student who feel ill need to ask their teacher for a Hall Pass to our Health Office.
• Students do NOT text your parent to pick you up before letting a staff member know first.
• We are here to provide assistance if needed. The school will call the parent for pick up.

Personal music devices, portable speakers, mobile phones, or other electronic devices may not be used during class time unless for educational purposes, and only if directed to do so by a school employee. These items will be confiscated and returned to the student at the end of the day on the first offense. On a second offense, Guardians may pick up confiscated items before or after school.

El Camino High School is not responsible for any lost, damaged, or stolen confiscated items.

Effective January 21, 2011, students will be placed on a non-participation list when they have:

• Failed to serve their assigned detention(s);
• Failed to serve their assigned Saturday School; or
• Received two (2) or more F-letter grades in any grading period.

Students on the non-participation list will NOT be permitted to attend athletic events, school performances, dances such as winter ball and prom), and other such events.

Student parking permits may be purchased from the attendance office for $5. Parking permits authorize students to park in the school parking lot or on Evergreen Drive but do NOT guarantee specific parking spaces.

Only El Camino High School (ECHS) staff have assigned parking. These spots are designated as "RESERVED".
Additional spaces labeled "STAFF" are reserved for ECHS employees.

Visitors to the school may park in the undesignated spaces in the visitor lot immediately to the right of the school's parking lot entrance. Visitors should obtain a temporary parking permit from the attendance office after their arrival.

On-street parking is limited to certain sections of Evergreen Drive with a school permit. 

Student bills may include any fees a student owes to the school.  Examples are class fundraisers, cafeteria bills and bills for damaged or missing textbooks/technology.

Bills are managed by the Library/Textbook Room.  An electronic copy is maintained in the Follett Destiny database system.  The textbook room is open from 8:00-3:30.  Students may make payment for bills before school (7:30-8:10), during student lunch and after school (3:20-3:30).  Inquiries about school bills can be made by phone to (650) 877-8806.

Acceptable forms of payment include cash, money order and cashier's check.  Personal checks are not accepted for payment after January of each school year.

All bills must be cleared for students to receive or participate in the following:

• Winter Ball
• Junior/Senior Ball
• Diploma
• Class Package purchases

Additionally, all bills must be cleared in order to process a transcript request

El Camino High School’s dress code supports equitable educational access and does not reinforce stereotypes. The purposes of the Dress Code are:

1. To allow students to express the diverse range of personalities at El Camino High School, including cultural, ethnic, religious, and gender-based identification
2. To prevent health or safety risks that interfere with the educational process
3. To assure that student dress is appropriate for classroom instruction, athletics, or special activities, such as lab science, industrial arts, or performing arts.

Students must wear:

• A shirt with fabric in the front, back, and on the sides under the arms
• Pants or the equivalent, including a skirt, sweatpants, leggings, a dress or shorts
• Shoes

Students may wear:

• Hats or hoodie sweatshirts, provided they do not interfere with the ability to identify a student quickly
• Religious headwear
• Fitted pants, including opaque leggings, and yoga pants
• Pajamas
• Ripped pants, as long as undergarments are not exposed
• Tank tops, including spaghetti straps and halter tops
• Athletic attire

Clothing that poses a health or safety risk, or clothing with images or writing that promotes behavior contrary to the expectations of appropriate student behavior will not be permitted. This clothing includes, but is not limited to:

• Shoes with wheels, taps, or heel plates
• Bullet proof vest, body armour, tactical gear, or facsimile
• Spikes, chains or accessories that could be considered dangerous or could be used as a weapon
• Any clothing that reveals visible undergarments
• Other than those worn for religious reasons, head coverings that interfere with the ability to identify a student quickly
• Any clothing, head covering, accessory, emblem, symbol, or insignia that:

1. Is identified or associated with gang affiliation or activities
2. Promotes the use of any illegal activity including recreational drugs, alcohol, nicotine, vaping, or paraphernalia
3. Contains hate speech, profanity, or pornography
4. Degrades or demeans any person or group
5. Encourages violence, harrassment, or sexually inappropriate conduct

Clothing that violates the dress code may be confiscated. Students in violation of the dress code will be asked to put on their own alternative clothing, if already available at school, to be dressed to code for the remainder of the day. When possible, the school will provide alternative clothing to ensure dress code enforcement does not result in barriers to school attendance. If necessary, students’ guardians may be contacted during the school day to bring alternative clothing for the student to wear for the remainder of the day.
