Progrram Overview

South San Francisco Unified School District (SSFUSD) offers courses in the following career technical education (CTE) industry sectors:

  • Arts, Media, and Entertainment;
  • Building and Construction Trades;
  • Health Science and Medical Technology;
  • Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation;
  • Information and Communication Technologies; and
  • Transportation.

Students engage in an instructional program that integrates academic and technical preparation and focuses on career awareness, career exploration, and career preparation in pathways that emphasize real-world, occupationally relevant experiences of significant scope and depth. Students may leave certain CTE pathways with industry certifications or even college credit.

A CTE pathway is a sequence of two or more CTE courses within a student's area of career interest. The sequencing usually consists of a Level 1 course (introductory), a Level 2 course (concentrator), and a Level 3 course (capstone).

All CTE courses support CTE model curriculum standards, which are  rigorous, evidence-based, relevant, and reasonable in scope. The CTE standards were created with assistance from more than 300 representatives from the business, postsecondary, and secondary education communities and reviewed by nearly 1,000 members of the general public.

In addition to the pathway standards, there are 11 anchor standards that are common across all CTE industry sectors that are built on career ready practices and aligned to Common Core State Standards.
