Pride of El Camino

At the end of the school year, the school's head coaches meet to nominate and select the most qualified male and female student-athletes for the following awards:
  • El Camino Blanket;
  • Outstanding Graduating Senior;
  • Scholar Athlete; and
  • Most Inspirational Athlete.
The recipients of these awards are announced at the Senior Awards Night ceremony, and the recipients have their names engraved on the school’s permanent awards area in the gym. 
 
Students who were considered for an award but who did not become the final recipient will also receive a letter of recognition. 

Blanket Award

The Blanket Award is the El Camino High School (ECHS) athletic department's most distinguished award.
 
Players of all sports have an equal opportunity to receive this award.

Nominees for the Blanket Award must be a graduating senior and have demonstrated the following characteristics for multiple years: 
  • High level of athletic achievement (e.g., team MVP or consideration, All County/All League, 1st team, 2nd team)
  • Significant athletic contribution (i.e., major contributor/starter at varsity level for 4 seasons)
  • Participation in more than one sport
  • Leadership qualities (e.g., team captain, Most Inspirational, etc.)
  • Competitive but overall positive attitude            
  • Value to the squad
  • Sportsmanship
  • Dependability (e.g., attendance, eligibility, etc.)
Student-athletes must also have received multiple nominations by their respective coaches to qualify for this award.

Outstanding Graduating Senior Award

Nominees for the Outstanding Senior Award must be a graduating senior and have demonstrated the following characteristics in their senior year:
  • Participation
  • Achievement
  • Sportsmanship
  • Leadership

Scholar Athlete Award

Nominees for the Scholar Athlete Award must be a graduating senior and have demonstrated the following characteristics:
  • High cumulative grade point average above 3.5
  • Satisfactory citizenship
  • Qualified for an athletic block

Most Inspirational Award

Nominees for the Elaine James and Monte-Schutz Awards must be a graduating senior and have demonstrated the following characteristics:
  • Competitive determination
  • Consistent courage in practice and games
  • High degree of effort in a winning or losing effort
  • Dependability
  • Role model for younger athletes
  • Contributor to team success
