Coaches
How to Become a Coach
Coaching at El Camino High School is about more than athletics—it’s about mentorship, leadership, and student success. Our coaches play an essential role in creating a positive, safe, and supportive environment where student-athletes can grow both on and off the field.
This page provides important information for current and prospective coaches, including expectations, certification requirements, volunteer guidelines, and contact information. All coaches must meet district and CIF requirements and keep certifications current in order to work with student-athletes.

After Approval
Coaches who complete all requirements will receive a district-issued ID badge, which must be worn at all times while working with student-athletes.
Coaches are responsible for maintaining current certifications. If any required certification (CPR, First Aid, TB, or Water Safety) expires during the season, the coach may not continue working with student-athletes. No exceptions.
Additional Information
* New coaches must schedule an appointment with the SSFUSD Human Resources Department to submit paperwork and complete Livescan fingerprinting through the San Mateo County Office of Education. All coaches, including paid staff and volunteers, must be fingerprint-cleared.
** CPR/First Aid training is offered by the school at no cost every other year (end of spring season). Online certifications are also accepted. Some programs may reimburse ($39.95) approved training costs with proof of payment.
Volunteer Coaches
Many athletic teams rely on dedicated volunteer assistants. All volunteer coaches must receive clearance from the SSFUSD district office, including fingerprinting, before working with students.
Important: Volunteer coaches may not have any contact with student-athletes until their application has been fully approved.
Required forms are available under "Resources" or through the school or district office.
