- Sudan is home to more pyramids than Egypt and is one of 11 countries through which the Nile River flows. The main staple of Sudanese food is a special type of bread called Kissra, which is made of durra or corn. Sudanese culture is influenced by other Arab and African traditions, with Islam as the dominant religion. They have a strong emphasis on family and community. Today, more than 70,000 Sudanese live in the United States. Reasons for immigrating are primarily due to escaping conflict and displacement from civil wars and conflicts.
